Broke Intake Casting!

Post by wallyblackburn »

UGH!!! Removed old temp sensor so I could install new temp gauge and the bushing stayed in the manifold. Tried to use an extractor to back it out and got a little overzealous.

Well, I guess I get to try the silicon bronze brazing wire and pure argon I got for my MIG. Honestly, it looks like some JB Weld might actually do it...

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Wally

Time for a new intake. I wouldn't want to deal with welding cast iron, particularly in a spot that takes some load from NPT threads and thermal cycling of different metal. Likely to crack again and leak, potential overheat if not caught quickly. If you're near NJ I have a C6AE intake from a '66 I don't plan to use.

I ended up fixing it up with JB Weld O:

We'll see how it lasts. @Dunk67: Thanks a ton for offering the unused intake, but I doubt I'll be anyway near NJ in the near future - but warms my heart when someone offers help like that.
