VIN plate on the door of my 63 &

Post by Cliff Rankin »

I’m hoping Jim or Mr. T reads this and gives me
Input (please). The painters did a number on my doorplate
Years ago. What can I say , sometimes when people
Help you out there are negatives. Anyway , I’m looking on
eBay. The plate is reversed. As far as vin and car codes.
Are there any options I overlooked? And while I’m thinking
Of it. Seems like we lost some craftsman’s. Any suggestions
On clock repair? This time i would like to get it quarts.
Thanks
Cliff

Don't have any input related to the VIN plate but I had my clock converted to quartz in 2010 by Instrument Services Inc and it has been working flawlessly ever since. Price was $155 total with shipping back then. They can be reached at www.clocksandgauges.com or 800-558-2674.

Cliff you can have a new data plate fabricated with correct fonts and numbers. Marti Auto Works did one for a few years ago even with the correct rivets Price is very reasonable.

I've used A.G. Backeast in the past, but not sure if he's still around. I believe he's located around Grand Junction, CO? Try a Google search and let us know what you find.

Before I read your post I took MN63 Advise and purchased
One from Marti. I called clocks and gages and I may send them the clock after I do a little more research.
I appreciate y’all s input !

How about that ? Okay, so the rivets , hit them with a flat
Punch ? And just to be sure , Body code goes up or
The Trans code go up side? Want to make sure. It’s been a while.
Thanks

IF memory serves me correctly, when the door is open the tag should read from bottom up, i.e. left side of the tag pointed down. It's been a while since I've looked at an unmolested door and the body/trim assembly manual for '63, which was the first year the tag was mounted on the rear face of the driver's side door.

The Data plate on my 65 Mustang was mounted the same way .

Are we sure that tag is the right way around? I copied the orientation on some significant M cars and they were all mounted the opposite way.
Thoughts?
