"Modifying mechanical devices" can be costly, in more ways than one, when you don't know what you're doing. Often it's better to leave things to professionals; if they make a mistake, they pay the consequence, not you.

I think I may have more confidence in my mechanical ability than you do. :-)

Been working on automobiles, airplanes, and boats for over sixty years now. So far, I haven't run in to anything I can't do. That said, I sometimes elect to have work done. My time is better spent on my day job, though messing about with antique vehicles is more fun.
