55 TBird - Speedometer runs backwards

Post by thundertom » Sat Aug 11, 2018 12:23 pm

Hello,

the speedometer of my mum's 55 TBird does not work.
Have found that the cable of speedometer was not connected to the rear of the instrument.
I connected it and noticed during the test drive that the digits of speedometer runs backwards.
How is that possible?

Best wishes from Germany
Thomas

Are you saying that when stopped the needle is all the way to the right on 150, and moves left as you accelerate? Or, did someone install the speedo faceplate backwards, and as the needle moves from left to right, the numbers count down?

I'm thinking he means the odometer runs in reverse.

No, the needle doesn't move in forward gear.

Yes, exactly.

News.

I've found this part. It was not installed:

This is a 1:1 converter for the direction of rotation. Made of plastic and very bad quality.
Sorry for my bad english. I hope that I explain it correctly.

I wonder why the tacho cable turns wrong. I think I will find the problem on the gearbox.
