I have a 56 Tbird with hardtop only. Been looking at soft top options, but not keen on having to fold it up & stow behind the seat every time its used. Is it ok to drive with the top folded down on the rear deck? Anyone had problems doing this?
Thanks.

Re: Driving with the top down
I've done it for short in town drives and kept the sides and rear latched but never tried it at highway speeds. I would be afraid the wind could catch it.

It is kind of hard on the paint too. Most of the owners in my areas don't use it except for emergency like sudden rain storm. They are a P.I.T.A . Nice to have for resale value as that is what they came with. The Hard top was an option I believe.

I run "baby carriage" style quite often. No problems at high speeds, it lays flat and does not rise. I always place a nice soft terry towel under it and also fold it between the folded portion of the rear window to prevent scratches. Get a towel that is close to the color of the car so it doesn't show much.
Don't have any fear of running it that way.

Thanks, good advice. I was also thinking getting the "static cling" rear decklid protectors to protect the paint.

The deck lid protectors are a good thing, but make sure that the deck is clean, including dust. Even dust, if left on, will scratch the paint as the top will "wiggle" a little regardless of it being clamped down..
