Gearshift

Post by Sid Hecker »

2004 T-Bird has indications 1 2 3 4 5

Shift always goes to 5.
When is #4 position used?

Thanks.

5 is the overdrive gear. In all cars this is the weakest gear. Not a real problem in normal operation. It is one reason O/D in not used when towing anything, though not likely in your 'Bird. O/D typically comes in around 40-45mph. You might use '4' when you find yourself driving near those speeds for an interval and feel the tranny often hunting between gears.
