MY INTRO AND 3 DIRTY CORVETTES, 1 CLEAN THUNDERBIRD

Post by KMcoldcars »

Last week I bought a nicely restored 1962 Thunderbird. Yesterday was nice and sunny so I got it out with my supercharged turquoise 1991 Corvette coupe, my torch red 2000 convertible and my electron blue 2002 Z06.
Since getting the Thunderbird I have given it a good wash, clay barred it, buffed the paint and put Rejex on it. I also changed the oil, filter, and coolant, and flushed the brake fluid. The Thunderbird is nice and clean. I still need to clean the chrome, tires and carpet. All the Corvettes are quite dirty as I have been driving them during the winter without washing them.
The man who did the restoration on the T Bird did it fairly well, although he did not have all the chrome redone. His one big mistake was having the engine in the car rebuilt, as I have determined that it is a 1959 352. I will need to buy a date correct block, heads, intake and carburetor to get it back to original. However, the purchase price was low enough that I will not get hurt doing this.
I bought my first car, a 1926 Model T in 1962. Since then I have had a wide variety of cars, including several Model Ts, a 1919 Cadillac limousine, a 1923 Lincoln, a 1928 Chrysler 72 deluxe roadster, a 1929 Franklin Victoria coupe, a 1929 Franklin roadster, a 1930 Cord L-29 convertible sedan, a 1931 Cadillac Town coupe, a 1932 Lincoln v-12, a 1933 MG J2 roadster, a 1936 Packard convertible sedan which I still have, a 1937 Ford, a 1937 LaSalle, a 1939 Delage D6-75 drophead de ville custom bodied by Coachcraft of London, a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado, a 1957 Corvette, a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado, a 1958 Pontiac Bonneville, a 1958 Jaguar drophead, a 1960 Jaguar FHC, a 1968 AMX 390, a 1971 Javelin AMX with a 401, a 1971 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 convertible, a 1972 Pantera, a 1974 Pantera, and a couple of early 1990s Corvettes, a 2000 BMW M roadster, and a couple of motorcycles.
I am now pretty much retired. For the last 25 years I have done upholstery on collector cars, ranging from 1903 up. I am now doing a 1934 Cadillac V-16, which will probably be the last car I do for anyone. Before that I repaired computer systems for about 20 years.

Welcome! That's a very nice T-Bird (and the 'vettes aren't too shabby either).

I've also owned a lot of cars and bikes, but none with the pedigree of the majority of the ones that you listed. I always wanted an XK-150 drophead, but the money was never there when an opportunity presented itself, and now the market is just too crazy to even think about a car like that. I'm glad I bought the '63 T-Bird when I did (and the Alfa, the TR's and the Healey as well ;-) ).

Enjoy!

Welcome again, It's good to have a fellow member that has the talent you have to share with us if we have a question about "how to". I too had many cars and motorcycles. I have kept my 1965 Mustang convertible along with the 1961 hard top Thunderbird. I'm semi retired for 17 years and enjoy working on my toys too.

Yes although I keep forgetting to pay this years dues.

If I get a day off when they have their meetings I will say hello.
