Rack and pinion in a 1961 convert

Post by Crowbird »

I am trying to put a 4.6 in a 1961 t-bird, the stering gear is in the way of the exhaust manifold, the only way I can see is to change to rack, any ideas? Thanks , crowbird

Im considering the 4.6 swap as well for my 62. I have not started on it yet as Im completing a 62 F100 project first. Based on my rough measurements the shock towers seemed to be a greater conflict. Have you got the engine in place? Im also considering the Jag front suspension unit below, disc brakes, R&P and ride height possibly in one package. Can you post a picture of the issue?

I have a 85 XJS that I'm using the suspension under my 1941 Chevrolet Coupe, front and rear.

there's been a small handful of 4.6 swaps done to bullet birds. you may have to get a custom exhaust header made. spending time looking for the few guys that have done it may be worth your time. i'm currently nearing the turn key part of my 5.0 swap and the drag link/pitman arm is an issue for me as well since i'm using gt40p heads.
