Forums Upgraded

Post by Yoda »

I've completed the upgrade of the forums to phpBB 3.1.3. The new version is better adapted for viewing from mobile devices and has an entirely new notification system so there should be more post/message notification options available. Also note that there is currently only one theme available for the upgrade.

Please post any issues that you encounter here and I'll do my best to address them.

Thanks.

Looks like the options to see newest posts since last visit or see your own posts got lost. I really relied on those.

Look at the top-left under the VTCI logo where it says "Quick links." I think that's what you're looking for.

G'day,
With the old forum, it was in larger font and took up the whole screen which was great for reading, is there some way I can change this? Or when you said that there is only one theme is that what you mean?

It may be as simple as holding the "Ctrl" key in the lower left corner of the keyboard and rolling your mouse wheel.
PLEASE invest a few bucks and buy all the shop manuals for your car. Definitely will save you much time and be an education.

There is one thing that might be an easy one. Can the forum be set up to open a new tab when a link is clicked? It used to be that way, now clicking a link opens in the existing window. Just a thought, Bob

Or, press the Ctrl and the + key to magnify--that'll work in any browser for any site. Ctrl and - will make the text smaller again.

With one extra step this can be done. If you right click on the original link you want to open a menu will drop down. One of the choices will be to open in a new tab.

I'm aware John, I'd like to skip that step

Well I never new of the ctrl key and the + or - key or the rolling of the mouse.
The things you learn on this forum.
So informative.

Those are neat tricks. I'm sure there's others we don't know about, too, but I'm not about to go out and get "Internet for Dummies" to find that out - I want to spend my time wisely  .

Amen. Not that it's difficult, but having to remember to do it is the trouble.

Brian; so far the new Forum looks ok, with some learning curves on my part, I will have no issues. BUT, just after getting photobucket to run some images for me, I really would like to see the ability to CUT and PASTE from my photo library like I do on other items. Not sure if I am explaining correctly , but why do we need a intermiedate web site to allow posting of photos? I normally just have 2 sites open and I cut and paste and copy back and forth. Thanks in advance Wally K.
