To be honest I don't know anyone who has modified an AOD to a Thunderibrd. Quite a few Fairlane owners have converted their small block cars to the AOD and I suspect you might find a few if you look on the Galaxie boards.

I do know that if you do drop an AOD in a car go for ones that were originally designed for the truck series, the second best choice were the ones that went into the larger (Crown Vics) Fords and maybe the ones for V8 mustangs before you go with the lighter weight ones in the four and six cylinder cars.

I thought about doing this with my 65 Fairlane but never with my birds. The cruise-o-matic has been fine for general driving although a fourth gear would be nice sometimes. I know the tranny hump probably would need some modifying, something that may be more trouble than it is worth.

Sorry I can't help more.
