black console paint in edges of trim?

Post by Zkroland »

Hi guys, I need to touchup/replace the black 3/4" line that lies within the trim of the center console/dash. Is it to be gloss black, flat or the wrinkle coating stuff?? I have not clue.
Thanks

funny, the remnants of mine look almost like camera coating, that dull almost textured surface. but then again it was sitting in the sun for almost 50 yrs!

I did all the black "camera case" areas on the console while I had the chrome strips off for replating using Ace Premium Flat Black enamel over the original textured finish. You don't want it too shiny. This paint has a very slight satin finish to it. I experimented with other paints before settling on the Ace brand which is available at any Ace Hardware store.

The black is a camera case finish which is not quite a flat black Landua black will give you a good match to the original.

The plastic paint will usually stick to about anything in most cases it is just regular automotive paint with a flex agent added. The fact is the the top of the consul is a type of plastic coating anyway to get the graining but as it does not flex the additive is not very important.
