Just to add my 2 cents, if you are doing a modified or custom, let your desires and thoughts be your guide and do it your way. As for me I am a fan of doing the engine compartment close to stock. Attached is my '62 Chestnut's engine compartment. Forgive me for the extra chrome, it's my old school heritage. Whatever you decide, enjoy your T-Bird.
