rearend rebuild

my 64 makes a whinning noise at low speeds. i am considering a complete stock rebuild
however i would like some ideas on modifying the stock rearend
or complete replacement. any ideas on vendors , kits , conversions,
replacements will be appreciated thanks

Not sure where you live. I would check with reputable tranny shops in your area and your trusted mechanic. Ask them who is doing good work now. Rebuilding a rear end is not difficult but does require a specific set of specialized tools and someone who is careful with their work.

Once you find the shop they should be able to tell what modifications they think would work.

i live in houston texas i'll try some of the tranny shops in my area
have you or do you no someone who has had rearend work done ?
if so where were the parts purchased ?

Stripped down my 66's rear-end after it started leaking oil a little from one axle, (it also 'hummed' a bit), I found the oil looked like black maple-syrup and pulled the centre section and found pitting all over the crown-wheel and pinion.

So got a workshop to fit brand new crownwheel and pinion, all bearings and seals.

Cost me NZ$1,200!!!!

Being a Ford 9" many company's build a full bolt in center section for our rear ends. Curry is a good place to start.

Yea they make some really nice stuff, they offer center sections as well.
