1955 with a Luggage Rack Agree or Disagree
I owned a 65 mustang, I installed a luggage rack on the trunk lid. I was wondering how would a baby bird look with a luggage rack.....I did find one online. What does this forum think? The luggage rack on the newer Thunderbird not stylish for my taste. BTW I'm NOT going to do install one. I just wanted to know the reaction on this forum what it thinks.

My initial reaction is, it doesn't fit with the car. It's not an MG with an even tinier trunk. However on a long trip and considering the small trunk could be utilitarian for luggage and just a clamp on to be removed .

I agree with Ward 57. Personally, I don't like them, spoils the look of he car, especially with the top down. I did two trips from the east coast to the west coast twice and found no need for additional storage (although it was tight). Did stop to wash clothes on the way back on one trip. Took a lot a spare parts with me too.

If it's your car, you should do what you want.
My 1988 Mustang LX convertible left the factory with a trunk rack (it was standard equipment). I never used it.
If you can only afford one car, such as a Tbird, Mustang, etc., that wasn't designed for hauling, and you refuse to trade the car for a truck/SUV, installing a trunk/roof rack might be a necessity (if you're not a minimalist). On the other hand, if you can afford more than one vehicle, make sure one is adequate for transporting whatever you need. Oh, don't forget U-haul & Home Depot; they rent pickups and trailers by the hour/day.

On some cars they look ok, occasionally even good. On the Tbird... I say not.

It's not ugly.
Although I would consider installing neither on my 55, I would choose the rack over a continental kit.

Can’t say I’d like it on my ‘55, but to each his own!

I vote NO, it just doesn't look right. If you are going on a trip, pick and choose what you bring with very carefully.
