62-3 M code T-Bird original owner for sale
Hello all. I do not know why I am getting involved ....
An acquaintance of mine is the son of the original owner of above said vehicle - he is not a car guy - I am and I recognize what we are looking at here. It is in good driver quality condition, clock shows 43k miles. A few paint touch ups. It will be on my possessions later today for 1 week. I would just mostly like to help find it an appropriately good home. Car is located in Penticton BC Canada.

Can you post the VIN tag number, to verify the M designation.

Re: 62-3 M code T-Bird original owner for sale
How much will you (he) be asking?
Re: 62-3 M code T-Bird original owner for sale
Thank you for your reply raven. I hope this pic helps.
My goal here is to come to the enthusiasts to help the owner come to some sort of fairish value, get it off the street corner with a for sale sign on it and get it to an appropriate home. I am sure that he is not going to be hard to deal with.

Re: 62-3 M code T-Bird original owner for sale
He is not a car guy. It has just always been there in his family. He does not know what to ask. I am hoping to get some guidance from some guys that know. Perfect scenario, a knowledgeable person or persons engage in conversation with him and arrive at a fair price. I know that he will be very easy to deal with.
I feel like I am mistaken. If this was a tri power 348/409 there would be a line up. Imo, this is a far cooler car.

Hello Forum,
As a reference here is a 62 Hardtop M-code,https://www.autohunter.com/Listing/Deta ... bird-MCode
Having spoken to the owner sometime last year around the bid period, I believe that it may not have sold at the closing bid price of US$35,500.00.
All the Best,
Jonathan

I believe there is plenty of interest here in the forums! That is a beautiful car. you can do some research online to come up with a fair price, but being an M code, I believe 35K or above is on target for a price. i would be interested in it but i just got a 62 that im working on.

Re: 62-3 M code T-Bird original owner for sale
I have info on this car in my database including the full VIN from speaking with the owner back in December 1997. My info indicates it was optioned with White Side Wall tires (1"-wide stripe), Power Windows, Power Driver's Seat, Heater, Radio, Tinted Glass and Windshield Washers. Currently I'm aware of 15 '62 M-series Landaus and suspect there's more out there that haven't been documented yet. This is a very desirable car to those who know what it is, but judging from the sliver of paint on the edge of the data plate, it's been repainted, but the engine bay looks fairly unmolested.
Sadly, more people are aware of 409-engined Chevrolets (thanks in part to a certain song by the Beach Boys) than factory tripower-equipped '62-'63 T-birds, and with familiarity comes popularity. Take a look at what's listed in Hagerty Insurance's website or in Old Cars News & Marketplace's Price Guide. For instance, the May 2023 OCPG says a '62 T-bird Landau with a 390-4v in #4 condition (Good-"Driver") is $6900, #3 condition (Very Good-"20-footer") is $15,530, #2 condition (Fine-"Well restored" or extremely well-maintained original) $24,150 and #1 (Excellent-"Perfect" 95+-point car on a scale of 0-100) $34,500: all carry a 40% premium if an "M" with tripower.
Judging by the photos, I'd say it's between a low '3' due to the repaint and lack of detailing in the engine bay to maybe a low '2' depending on how a person evaluates its originality. That would put you in the range of $21,750 - $33,800 if you hit the marks between '3' and '2' condition, and more than likely a middle figure of $27,000-$28,000 would be realistic given the condition of the engine bay, quality of paint and not knowing what the underside looks like. If the owner gets an offer for the car that's $30,000 or better, they better take it; otherwise they'll be sitting and waiting, have to work to market it for private sale, go through a consignor/broker or consider going to auction (which could be a crap shoot with someone low-balling bidding to get it) and face paying commissions/fees.

Re: 62-3 M code T-Bird original owner for sale
Thanks very much for the feedback fellas. A bit less valuable than I surmised but very interesting info to me just the same.
Always fun to hear from the experts on a car like this.
I will refer the owner to this thread and he can go from there - hopefully get it into an appropriate garage.
Thanks again, Frank

Re: 62-3 M code T-Bird original owner for sale
The selling price of a classic car, regardless of its rarity, will always be dictated by its condition, paint, chrome, mechanical, etc.
After owning and selling many classic cars over the years, I found a classic car is only worth what someone will pay you for it regardless of any book prices!,,,
