Generator Wiring '56 TB
Got the engine back in my '56 TB, and now am faced with figuring out how three wires hook up to my generator...with two electric posts "F" and "G".
Any help would be appreciated.

Black/red is Ground. Other black is Field. Yellow goes to the post on the rear

Got it, thanks. I knew there was another post, but had painted it over and just couldn't find it.55Greg&Amy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 4:08 pm Black/red is Ground. Other black is Field. Yellow goes to the post on the rear

I'm amazed at how close that rear post is to the block. But it seems to work in my case.

Hi, You may have the wrong backing plate on your generator. Many T-bird vendors sell the adapter kit. Some are stamped some ars cast. Try # 10211-AC or 10211AS. Good luck

Thanks Paul. I'll see if I can get this one working. Otherwise I'll check out the adapter kit.Paul T. I'm 99% sure it is original. The bearing cap sticks out almost the same.Paul T. Amick wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 9:09 am Hi, You may have the wrong backing plate on your generator. Many T-bird vendors sell the adapter kit. Some are stamped some ars cast. Try # 10211-AC or 10211AS. Good luck

Hi, Many people think that the generators on a T-Bird and a regular car are the same. Yes the gen. will fit but the hot post will be very close to the block. Unless you have owned the car from new you will never know. Just because it fits doesn't mean it is correct. If you check the part # I sent you, you'll see that the yellow wire position is different on the Bird. Again good luck

Hi ward57
If you google 1955-1957 ford thunderbird generator end plate on will come up NOS. But you just need the part # I sent you. I have done half a dozen of these. I have one in my garage ready to go. Paul

This is what I have. So this is a Ford car end plate and not for a T-Bird? I never knew there was a difference.

Hey, That is a standard ford generator. Tbird plate conversion moves the yellow wire outward away from the block. Order the kit 10211-AC cast type or 10211-AS stamped steel. Use a tooth pic to hold the brushes in before disassembley.(google it) use the brushes you have in it, don't make it a bigger deal than it is. Paul (linblkbrd@msn.com) or 941-429-4027

Hi, That the way a T-Bird generator is suppose to look. Stud away from block. The conversion kit will do the job. Paul
