Cutting out Shock Towers

Has anyone successfully cut out the shock towers? I have a 62 and am looking at slowly building (due to budget) a 427 SOHC from Pond, but as you can see here, the SOHC is 5 inches wider than your typical 427 and would not in anyway fit the stock engine bay. Is this a lost cause or is there some sort of modification that can be done to the shock towers and/or suspension to allow for the wider engine?
