1963 thunderbird Grille

Post by 63TEstatebird »

Hello,
New member here. I’ve got a 1963 Thunderbird hardtop that I purchased at an estate sale. The car was parked in January of 1990. As you can imagine, it has had its many challenges and I’ve turned to your forms for most my answers. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a 63 grille. Mine is broken and I can not find one online. Just thought I’d ask! Thank you in advance for any help.

1. Helps to know where you're from/located. Why?
2. More than likely you're going to have to source a used one, meaning people need to know location in order to figure shipping, packaging, etc.

Used ones are available - look in the "For Sale Thunderbirds and Thunderbird Parts" section of the Forum or place a "Wanted" ad. Personally, I have one - it's buried in storage at my place between Omaha and Lincoln, and with two '63s I really want to hang on to it.

I have a serviceable, lived in arizona all its life, 63 grille.
Make a complete list of what you need.

The good news is
I'm pretty easy to trade wwith.

The bad news is I trade and never sell.
Trades up or down, your toys for mine.
Need not be t-bird or car related.
I have no interests therefore everything interests me.

Thanks for the prompt response Alan. I live in Eastern Washington state 2 hours from Seattle. My grille has a pretty decent size hole in it where a few fins are broken, that’s the reason for needing a replacement. I’ll check out the forums and see if I can stumble across one. I check Craigslist pretty regularly but it seems you can’t find much for these cars. I don’t blame you for wanting to hang on to the one you have. Especially since it seems like there is no reproduction grilles? Thank you again.

Thanks for the response Duckface. I’ll check out the other forums and try my luck there. If nothing, I’ll start thinking of stuff to trade and make a list. Gotta come up with some ideas. Thanks again!

How big is the hole?
Look in the store on this site.
There's a perfectly acceptable grille badge many of us have on their grille. 3"+-.

(that's your grille hanging on the wall)

Thanks for the pictures ducksface. I just thought I’d post a update. The idea of the grille badge was a huge help. Unfortunately the badge in the sites store was just a little too small.. I ended up purchasing a although more cheese but bigger one off of eBay. I will add a photo. It Worked really well. Great idea. This will do until I am able to get ahold of a correct grille. I do have a new pair of rear seat covers for a 63 thunderbird that are the med blue light blue for trim code 52. If you would be interested in trading for the grille you have that you mentioned. Anyways just wanted to oust a update. Thanks again for the help!

The seat seat cover is a fair trade, but I have no use for a blue seat cover.
I'm all about finding ways to make things work and the badge seemed a nice, maybe forever, fix.

No judge would look behind that badge.

I've got a used 63 grill in good shape. A little pitting but appears would clean up well.
