Speedo Drive Gear 8 tooth

Post by meangene393 »

I had my 1963 3-speed auto tranny rebuilt and the speedo drive gear is broken and I cannot find a replacement after checking for 2 days. I have the speedo gear that fits on the end of the cable but the part needed is the plastic speedo drive gear 8-tooth, 1-3/8" inside diameter. I've looked at Fatsco, Larry's T-Bird, T-Bird HQ, T-Bird Connection, Classic Cars Unlimited, etc. Any suggestions on where else to look next? Photos attached of old one.

You said you tried "Petco"? Did you mean Fatsco? If Fatsco doesn't have it I can't think of anyone else who might.

Edit: I forgot about Charlie Tranny. He has some drive gears listed and may have what you need.

Hey, you might try The Birds Nest out of the Portland, OR area. They seem to have a lot of parts around. www.tbirdparts.com is the URL.

Hello meangene,

When I rebuilt the Cruise O in my 64 I found the gear on eBay. When you go on there just look up "Ford speedometer gear" and I bet you'll find it. They used these same type of speedometer gears until the 90s I believe, just check the inner diameter and pictures for the listing to make sure it will work

Try Bird Nest at 800-232-6378 or Pat Wilson at 888-262-1153. I just had the transmission rebuilt on my 1962 Roadster and it had a steel drive gear in it. I don't know if it was original to the transmission as it had been rebuilt at some point in its earlier life. Pat Wilson had a used steel gear that was as good as new that he sold me for $25. Good luck! Hugh Dean
