high torque starter

Post by crashchoate »

Is anyone running a high torque starter. I had one on my 351c and would love to have one on this car. Does anyone know what flywheel tooth the 64 thunderbird has on it. thanks again.

Does '64 have a short nose starter or a long nose starter?

I believe it’s the long nose. I think it is also the 153 tooth flywheel. The only ones I can find for 153 are for a Chevrolet

Yes, the 64 is like the 63 in that regard and has the long nose starter.
You can change out the flex plate with the 65+ part and go with the newer style starter - as I have done.
I have also heard of guys using the short starter on the 153 tooth plate. They claim it works fine but I have no first hand knowledge of that.

How much difference can there be in a 153 tooth and a 164. I mean pitch wise. I’ve got one for that flex plate.

You might try a RobbMc mini-starter. The #3026 looks right for your application. I have one on my 61 Thunderbird with 153 tooth flywheel. Here’s the website, https://www.robbmcperformance.com/produ ... block.html.

Good luck.
