Back at this same problem and hesitating to pull cluster. Quit on it in September.
Does anybody know what Ford mechanics would do to bypass the ammeter in a 64? Mine is definetly gone.
Removed clock assembly and looking for splice.
Would they simply splice the two wires together?
A Ford mechanic would likely have replaced the ammeter . . .
I don't see an issue with splicing the wires together, but a poor connection here could be dangerous. Use a Western Union splice (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Union_splice ), solder the wires together and protect the splice with heat shrink tubing. (Don't forget to slip the tubing over the wire
before you splice and solder!)

If I just wanted to bypass the Ammeter, I'd just move both wires to one post and tighten the nut. JMO, Bob C
It's gonna be cool when it's done

Yes, they could just connect the two ammeter wires together and all would work fine.

i had a similar problem. Ended up that a join had come apart up under dash on passenger side. It was joined together with a household wiring plastic twist cap.

Horrendous. I barely even trust those things when they're used in the
correct application.

[*]Wow, did not know there was a joint up in there. I can take a look, I already have the vent mechanism off to work in that area anyway. My firewall connectors are good, albeit replaced by heavy duty bolted connectors.
I'll get er done with patience and a lot of help. Thanks Forum guys.

The wiring is different based on the year and body style.
Which year? Convertible, coupe, or Landau? A/C or not A/C? Power windows or no?

I don't think there is supposed to be a join up there. Well not in this wire. My car 64 Hardtop with aircon and power windows.

Mine is a Landau with A/C and power windows. The wiring fix where the ammeter was removed looks great. I give up, towing it to the shop. Thanks guys
