Anyone know what this part is?

Post by Dansbirds »

So I had the rear drum off on my 70 to replace a wheel stud, this piece was jammed in the bottom of the shoes and adjuster. It’s obviously bent so original shape could be anything. Any ideas?

Just a couple guesses maybe part of the self adjusting brake mechanism or the emergency brake?

Self adjuster is intact, I’m dreading pulling the other side to see if i see it on the left, this car has 275/60’s with cragar ss unilugs so they are a bear to mount up.

Honestly it doesn't look like anything I could foresee as something needed. I just did the rear brakes on my 1969 and I'd imagine they are pretty much the exact same as yours.

In the last picture the middle four pieces are the only pieces that go into the rear brake drums. One is the spreader bar that pushes the shoes apart when the parking brake is applied and the other is the lever that is connected to the parking brake cable itself. Also unilug wheels are crap. Replace them in my opinion with proper fitting wheels. They are nothing but trouble.

Thanks for the reply, I was leaning towards not anything of importance also. Everything is new in there from when the car was rebuilt( prior to me purchasing). As far as the unilugs go this is my first experience with them, I’ve searched a lot of info on them and it seems to be a 50/50 split on like and dislike. Not sure what the my long term plans are with this car so for,now the cragars are still on. Thanks again for the input.

15" Cragar's on my car with Mickey Thompson P225/70/R15 tires. Get a purpose fit wheel and dump the unilug. The look ugly with all the extra holes and it seems like it could be a weak point as well.

I have cooper cobras maybe I mis named them as I don’t have but 5 lug holes, they just happen to be oblong which require these special washers on the lugs

Well they look okay. At least not some silly multi holes. But special washers? Like spacers?
