Fuel filler neck questions 1969 Thunderbird

Hey I want to ask about the fuel filler neck. I recently got a new fuel tank and repaired my original neck (had corrosion damage around the top just below the spout). Now I have reinstalled it into the rubber grommet, but I put it on the fuel tank before reinstalling it onto the car. So now the fuel filler neck is coming out from under where it went by the fuel door instead of down through it. Does this really matter? I mean it’s in there and not moving just not connected to the location it was originally in. Most of it has rotted away anyway. I’ll get some pictures out as soon as I can.
