Shifter linkage 1969 Thunderbird

Post by OneAmongOthers »

So my shift linkage is loose on my car. Is there anyway to tighten it up? I believe the issue is a bracket on the transmission had the bushing fall out then it reamed the inside diameter of it.

Here it is. The bracket that holds the shaft that comes over from the linkage on the column itself. Now if I cannot fix this issue I was thinking of just getting rid of it completely and going with a floor shifter. Would this be difficult? I have the bench seat in my car. Also if possible is there a way to retain the swing away steerin wheel if I put in a floor shifter?

Even the shifter itself feels sloppy when trying to shift into gear.
