First pic is a year ago - looks good from a few feet but what you coouldn't see is the rusty roof under the vinyl, the holes in the front upper bumper and the sloppy steering box. Forward 10 months and the steering box has been changed, the front bumper mended and this is where I am with the roof. I decided to ditch the vinyl (3rd one it's had to my knowledge) and after a lot of filling and rubbing down it's nearly ready for some very light beige paint I have got which I think will go well with the bronze paint. The chromers did a good job on the bumper so I have taken them the wheel spinners and the rear vent. The rest of the car I will repaint later this year or next maybe

The one on the right is my granddaughter. Her hair was ginger but now matches the car pretty well.

That's a great color, Rt.146. Is that an original TBird color?

Thanks. So here’s a question, how can we tell if an original color car has been repainted? Look for overspray or ?

I think if it's done really well, you'll probably never be able to tell (except that the paint will be unusually nice for its age.

I have a receipt from the PO of my car saying that the entire car was repainted in the original color, but I would have known anyhow from the overspray in the engine compartment. Also, after a few years of ownership I noticed a slight mismatch front to rear--I suspect that whoever did the job got away with spraying only half the car.

Makes sense. I’m sure truly original paint is desirable in some people’s minds, but with all the buzz about “patina” it’s clear there are different strokes for different folks.

Often a give-away that the car has been repainted is that the inner front fenders have been painted satin black, they should be the same colour as the cars exterior on a Thunderbird
