1966 Brake Booster
The check valve on my 1966 brake booster broke off flush with the grommet. When I tried to remove the broken piece, it fell into the booster. It's a plastic cylinder about 3/4" in diameter and height. So the question is, will that cause any harm or obstruction while laying at the bottom of the booster housing? I haven't had this booster apart, so I don't know what it looks like inside. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: 1966 Brake Booster
There's not much in there other than the large moving diaphragm so there's nothing it can harm and I can't image it would hinder the movement of it enough to matter.
I just wouldn't worry about it.

Scott

Re: 1966 Brake Booster
I WOULD, the diaphragm is a moving rubber bladder and if there is a sharp edge on the plastic remnant it may over time nick and cut it. I would attempt to unbolt the master cylinder and use some hymostats and try to remove the piece thru the opening. The shop manual, if memory serves, gives a cross section of the booster, to give an idea of the internal area to be concerned with.
It would be better to try first, before being forced to lose the brakes or having to remove the booster or the expense of a failure or replacement.

If you want to remove it, you can unbolt the master cylinder from the booster and pull it away and fish around in the booster for the part. You'll probably have to disconnect the brake lines though, which could be a bummer.
