In search of a Moog T-469 Compressor..Hamilton area

Post by JBird66 »

Hi,
I'm in need of replacing the coil springs on my 66. The previous owner had of all things welded a few cut coil spring pieces to the top of the original coils, adding about an inch an a half to the ride height. Why..I have no idea. I've purchased the correct springs from Mac's. Along with that I ordered the compressor they advertise for the job.
Its not the best. It is similar to the Moog but the plate is too thick to fit between the coils. I did manage to remove one coil spring with it using a improvised plate but that was dicey. I would prefer the proper compressor if possible.

Would anyone in the Hamilton Ontario area have one I could rent?

I really should have just brought it to a spring shop but now that i have one out..I kinda need to get one back in

Thanks,
Joe

Joe, Being a local SOTC member and knowing a fellow who may have one, I will check. No promises. He runs a suspension/alignment shop for weekend race car tuners and does resto rods/antiques as a side line. He has a full time job and only works evenings and weekends. He did the alignment on my 64 a while back with no issues.
Not sure if he will loan or rent his tools though and may ask a heavy deposit if so.
Give me a couple of days to source it out, and I will get back to you via a PM.

Drop down for a coffee nite some time at the Timmy's on Plain's Road Second Tuesday of the Month.

These appear on eBay and Craigslist from time to time. When I was doing my front suspension, I bought one, then resold it for about the same amount when I was done. Not the fastest solution, but it worked for me.

Before he sold it, Steve was kind enough to let me borrow his tool when I did my springs.
It's amazing how easy this job is with the correct tool!

Got them in without the Moog but it was a fight. Won't be doing that anytime soon again.

Just in case anyone else is looking to do this with the proper tool a gentleman by the name of Tom Chitwood has an ad in the Thunderbird Scoop advertising the Moog compressor for rent at $100. 00 per week. 386-290-9982
A 66 Thunderbird is cool. A Sapphire Blue 66 is a beautiful car. The 428 engine completes the package.
