I had an incident happen the other day that when I tried to put my transmission into drive it did not engage but acted as if it was still in neutral. I had no issues back in the car out of the driveway in reverse prior to put my car into drive when this happened. Eventually by moving the gear selector up and down several times it did engage to drive and then acted normally throughout the day.
A couple days later I was at his four way stop sign and when I went to give the car some gas it again acted as if it was in neutral even Though I drove up to the stop sign as normal.
This is a 66 Thunderbird with the cruisomatic transmission and this is the first time something like this has happened.
Any suggestions?

Thats funny because same thing happened to me yesterday. I think maybe because didnt let car warm up enough because after a minute it was fine. I drove it first for about 45 minutes after a good warm up and went to a friend for lunch and car sat for a few hours. He lives near the water on Long Island NY and was cold and windy and about 40 degrees out..Curious...fly.rodn wrote: ↑Fri Jan 04, 2019 9:29 am I had an incident happen the other day that when I tried to put my transmission into drive it did not engage but acted as if it was still in neutral. Unfortunately that is a classic sign of either low fluid or a pump going. If it's full of fluid, a rebuild is in its future.
Ultimately what will happen is it wont go into gear after it has sat a while and the fluid has cooled.

Also strange I stopped a few times for gas to top off after and she shifted fine..One station could not break a hundred dollar bill so went to another, wont be going there again..Will check fluid next time I start her up..Most likely she will sit for the rest of the winter...Thanks Scott..

Took the Tbird out today for the first time this season. A couple of pumps on the gas and she started right up. As far as the tranny fluid is full . Drove for about 30 minutes with no issues..I hope it stays that way..
