New Guy, thanks for the add!

Post by 65InKy »

Thank you for the add! I’m not new to classic cars, having completely rebuilt a 52 Ford F1, but somewhat new to Thunderbirds. I’ve helped my father in law extensively on his 63 Thunderbird, and recently just purchased as 65 Thunderbird myself. I look forward to learning the tips of the trade on these cars. Thanks again for the add,

Welcome Jon to the Forum. We look forward to see some pictures of your new Bird. The Forum is not like Facebook so you do not need to "thank for the add", we welcome any questions you have, but do understand, many questions you do ask, have probably been asked before, and a lot of information can be found in our "SEARCH" section, in the upper right corner of this page. I have found most of the fun in learning about our cars is the "hunt"
As I said before WELCOME.

Welcome! 65's were a great car with a number of improvements over the 64's.

Welcome, Jon, I'm kind of partial to '65 myself.

Some pics of my new to me thunderbird, 65 model, all original, 50,000 original miles. I went and bought it and drove it home 135 miles one way. I'm tickled with the car so far, learning a few new things along the way. I have redone a 52 Ford F1 from the ground up but this one is a different ballgame lol. I'm from southeastern Ky.

welcom Jon. I'm looking at the fenders, don't look like 65's to me. Any better pics?
It's gonna be cool when it's done

I’ll see if I can get a few more up, I’ve noticed that most 65’s seem to have the chrome trim behind the front tire and mine doesn’t have that. Any chance that maybe someone’s put 66 fenders on?

More like 64. 66 fenders changed a bit. Wood grain wheel and console suggest a makeover along with front fender.
Car looks nice. I’d love to see under the ol’ bonnet (hood).👍

I can definitely see some similarities to the 64 fenders. I’m still learning about these old tbirds, like anything else it’ll take me a little while of learning before I can spot a specific year model from across a field, grown up with weeds, sitting behind a barn lol!

I’ll go out tomorrow and try to take some pics under the hood. I got the car at a steal of a price, so I’m tickled with it for now, even if it does have a pair of mismatched fenders lol!

Jon, I increased the photo sizes and I would confirm its a 65 with 64 front fenders and a Landau dash panels and steering wheel (wood grain).
The car looks great and small items to correct, and that is only if you wish to. The beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. It looks like it has AM/FM also. Enjoy the ride.

Great looking car, this appears to be a 1965 Thunderbird that has had some changes done to it. Fenders, like most have said, are 1964 fenders. Also the wood grain interior should be on a Landau, which came with a vinyl roof and the "S" bar. Is your body code on the data plate a 63A or 63B?

If it is a Landau converted to a Hardtop it would also have wood grained door panels and quarter panels too, plus hockey stick roof bars to compliment the "S" bars, over top of the vinyl roof pad.
Think it is more likely a 65 Hardtop with the woodgrained dash panels added for a classier look, than the camera case black panels.
No matter, it is a clean looking car, from what the photos show, and will be a pleasure to drive.
Happy trails.
