New Wide Whitewalls for 65 Convertible

Post by Scott J. Fonner »

1965 Convertible, Currently has P205/75R15 standard whitewalls.

Is it a good idea to go to P215 vs. P205? I understand the 215 will be little taller and a little wider. Suggestions on whether to stay with what's on them or go larger. This is the best price I've found.Image

As always, thank you in advance.

Measure the clearances to fender skirts and ball joints then turn wheels full left and right to measure clearances. If your clearances are at least 3/8" or greater after the increase in size of the new tires you should still be OK.

I have 215's on my 64 and even with some careful trimming of the skirts, they rub. When it's time to replace these, I'll be downsizing--I don't see the value in the extra height and width.

I'm running Hankook 215's and they don't rub at all.

I think you both have an HD anti-sway bar, which I do not. Wonder if that might be the difference.

Interesting idea; I could see that being a factor in corners. Some side by side road tests would help.
