No mufflers

Post by datbird »

I have 1964 T-bird 390. The engine has 130k miles I think rebuilt. Does not use oil runs well. Problem back of car sounds like has a miss. The car does not have mufflers only resonators. Someone thought it needed a crossover pipe since long distance to back. Any thoughts? Dennis

You had me at "does not use oil runs well." If the car is running fine and is properly tuned, there's no sense searching for problems.

The good old 7/8 spark plug wires? Apparently they're not supposed to be run parallel to each other.

post a picture of your exhaust system showing the resonators and crossover pipe you are talking about.

The exhaust cross-over has nothing to do with the length of the exhaust. It has to do with increased torque.
It should be located near the end of the H pipe.

If the car runs good "on the road" but has a slight miss at idle try taking a pair of needle nose pliers and pinching the vacuum line running to the brake booster and see if it improves. Had a this mystery with my 65, cylinder it was missing on kept changing, found vacuum leak at the booster. This miss tends to go away when driving most notable at idle. Good Luck.

I have changed brake booster, vacuum lines, sparkplug wires, carb, dist, transmission, rearend and brakes. The only left is pulling engine but think like Steve I`m looking for something that hopefully won`t cause me problems. If it does then fix it. Thought someone might of had same issues. I just won`t go in back of car while running. LOL.
