This weekend, I installed a new distributor and fixed a leaking power valve (and secondary diaphragm) and got my '63 running well. I did notice that my PCV system does not match the shop manual's diagram, which shows the PCV entering the carb baseplate. It looks like someone added a different baseplate along the line, and it looks like the current setup will work fine, but could someone with 390 experience tell me what I have going on here? Thanks!

Re: '63 PCV System?
More information needed on your intake manifold. What are the casting numbers in front of the carb? I can see 9425B, but what's the characters in front of it? C1AE? C1SE? C4AE? C5AE? C6AE? Other? Also, there is a casting number above it that would be the manifold's casting date: what are the letters/numbers? (The '66 manifold pictured does not have this.)
The 1961 PCV setup is similar to what you have pictured, but the tube with the cap on it isn't from that application. The '61 and '66 pulled vacuum from the port between the carb and distributor: difference in part is that the '65-'66 had the PCV valve in the passenger side valve cover, while the '61 had it in-line between the outlet at the back of the manifold and the tube going into the intake. The '61 didn't have a spacer between the carb and intake manifold, while the '66 did have a thin tapered phenolic spacer with a vacuum hose connection at the rear.
1962-1964 were pretty much the same - a thick cast aluminum spacer with vacuum port at the rear center that allowed a hose to connect to a fitting bolted to the top rear of the manifold. The PCV valve screwed into the fitting, and a pair of short hoses connected a bent tube that bridged between the outlet at the rear of the manifold and the PCV valve inlet end. For '65 the PCV valve moved into the passenger side valve cover, with a hose connecting the PCV valve to the vacuum port in the carb base. '62-'65 spacers also have hose nipples to allow the base to be heated by coolant, and should be tapered so that the front is thicker than the rear to level the carb for the T-bird application. BTW, if a '62 had the open emissions system, i.e. road draft tube, the spacer had a solid stub in the place where the PCV hose would have connected to it.

Thanks guys,
I'll check out the manifold numbers after work and get back to you, Alan.

Re: '63 PCV System?
My intake manifold number is C1AE9425B, with a casting date of what looks like "1F6:", which is apparently a June 6, 1961 casting date. It looks like my manifold is from a '61, which kind of explains the setup. There's a camshaft in the trunk that the friend of the deceased man who used to own the car said was original to the engine, and the tag says '66 390. I'm guessing my engine is a hodge podge of parts, but that kind of thing doesn't bother me as long as it all works.
