Heater control heads I have on '63s have an orangish-red for the Fan/speed lettering.

Here a images of a 1963 complete head that I just removed from a parts car last Friday, note that the lettering is off white, car build date was 09A .
The two lenes below are from a 61 and a 62 the 62 date would be 09B, 61 date unknown.

To refinish the lettering would require the removal of the black background paint on the lens then scraping out the paint from the lettering so that could be refinished. Not sure that the improvement would be worth the work.

First picture post for a number of years and it appeared to work, originally had three posted but decided that it only needed the one.

Thanks Jim.
I haven't pulled mine apart yet and will probably be some time as I am working on the electrical wire terminal ends. I have a plastic injection moulding machine and I am working on the dies for the single male, single female, if they work I will then work on the double plug and if that works I will have a go on the regulator plug.

As far as the printing on the heater control unit, I was under the impression that the writing and the pictograms are just printed on paper and this is just sandwiched between the two parts? Or is it just printed on the clear plastic face?

Karl

These two pictures of the back of the plastic insert make it appear that the letters are recessed in to the back side of the plastic and then paint of the appropriate color is applied into the recessed area. The next step looks to be blackout of the back of the insert to prevent indirect lighting from escaping or entering from the rear of the plastic, I think that the light travels through the clear plastic and provide light to the painted letters??

The two closeups of the rear of the lenses should show you the way the lettering is done.

Only the first image posted even though it did load both pictures in the draft and showed them in the preview of the message.

Here is the second one.

Thanks Jim, I should of realized it is not as simple as I thought.

I have had a lot of trouble loading multiple images for a long time now. There must be something wrong in the program.

I'm thinking there is a size limit on the pic upload, and multiple pics will exceed the limit. JMO, Bob C
It's gonna be cool when it's done
And now it's really cool !!

I don't think so. What I do is try to write everything and then load the images in one lot. They all load and then submit. If you preview that's when they get lost.

These picture where 3.5 - 3.7 MB they are large alright but what is the use of a poor picture when we are looking for details.
