So I'm currently restoring my old steering wheel and will be ready for paint in a few days hopefully.
My question is about the spoke dress up plates just behind the horn ring. See below:
So these dress-up pieces seem to be glued on as I see no external fastners. Can they be removed for painting and re-installed or will they need to be left and masked over?

G'day,
On my 63 they can be pried off. There are some tabs on the back of the spokes and when the spokes are pushed into the wheel they fit into some grooves in the wheel itself. Seems quite rudimentary but it seems to work as mine haven't fell out of my wheel yet. If they do get lose you may be able to use some sort of glue. Maybe Ford did use glue of some sort in the day.
