1961 Two-Tone Exterior - Data Plate Code

Post by Alan H. Tast »

I'm attempting to get some information together re. 1961 two-toned hardtops and data plate codes. Many of the data plates I've collected information on simply have the two-letter code indicating body and roof color. Some have a third character, a '1' following the roof color code. What I'm wanting to find out is what dates was the '1' used in order to determine a pattern of usage, and if any cars have a third character other than a '1.' I have thought that the '1' meant a deviation in the roof color that was coded, but I stumbled across some information today that may put a completely different spin on the code's meaning. I won't tip my hand as to what it may mean yet, though.
