After market wheels?

Post by 63vert »

I have a 1963 convertible. Has anyone put on a set of 17 or 18 inch wheels with a low profile tire? I have seen a few pictures on the internet and thought I might go with something other than wire wheels.
I can't stand the original 63 whell covers with spinners.

Hello.
Check out my Magnum 500 wheels in my signature below. Mine are 7" wide 15" diameter with 70 series 225 tires. You'll need to pay attention to backspace to make aftermarket wheels clear skirts. Good luck.

How’s this? Click on the picture and zoom as you like. Mine are Wheel Vintiques brand. I wanted Cragar but they were backordered too long. I’m satisfied and I think they are available in other rim sizes. Good luck.

Hi,

check my post in viewtopic.php?f=23&t=15522

They fitted nicely on the 62' - fitting the spats no-go but with a different tyre they might fit.

Thanks for the info.
Moderator can move the post if you wish.
I am thinking about true spokes now because I cant find a wheel I like that will fit the offset.
It looks like most people use the torque thruster style. I was looking for something else.

Late reply but I went with torque thrust stye wheels from Coys. Offset is good so no rubbing issues. I lowered the car a few inches FYI.

Hey Graeme!

Sorry for the late response. Haven't been on much lately. I moved most of my pictures over to Imgur but if there is a thread that has a picture that is needed please let me know and I will reinsert the picture link so that it works.

Hope all is well with the 'Bird!!

Guys, of course I am woefully ignorant of most things Thunderbird, but I had NO IDEA that any wheel larger than 14 inch would even fit? (even getting my stock 14's on is a challenge for the rear).

I will be revisiting this post, down the road - thanks!
