1960 Tbird ride height

Post by Royce Richmond »

Hello folks, can anyone tell me what the correct ride height is for a 1960 Tbird? Measured from the ground to the top of the front wheel opening arch.
Thanks for your help, Royce

If anyone cares out there, the ride height should be 26.5 inches

Royce: how/where did you come up with the measurement? I've been searching for stock-condition front/rear measurements for YEARS.

Hello Alan,
I got two separate measurements. One off a friend's original unmodified 59 convertible and another from Pat Wilson's 1960 that they own. Both were 26.5 inches from ground to top of the wheel opening arch. Mine on the 60 convert that I am working on for a friend used to have the big heavy 430 in it and was refitted with a 390 FE. Ride height on it is at 29 inches. When the swap was made they didn't change the 430's springs over to the 352 springs.

Were they on 8.00x14 bias tires or on radials?

On radials. my car is in radials. I just had the springs replaced yesterday and the ride height is 28.5. Should I cut a coil off the springs to bring it to 26.5? My friend has a 62 and had to do that to get his to the proper ride height.

What size of tires are the radials?

Well here is the results. I removed the front springs (new) and cut one coil off and reinstalled the springs. My ride height is exactly 26.5 inches AND THE WHEEL HOP AND SHAKING IS GONE!! The car handles so much better, it is unbelievable. I hope this helps y'all.
