Hood Spring Expander

Post by Karl »

Here is the specs for the hood spring expander that I made. I have used it maybe a dozen times and at this stage it hasn't failed (touch wood)
The shaft with the foot slides down the inside of the hood spring when it is on the car and the foot fits onto the bottom part of the spring stradeling the hinge, the hook then goes onto the top loop of the spring and hooks over the two dowels on the main body. I use a air tool with a socket to drive the rod and expand the spring. Once expanded it is simple to remove the lot of the car.
I had the tool zinc plated when finished.
Rod:-
overall length 480mm
thread length:- 220mm
material:- 4140 steel
Thread type 16x3mm Trapizoid.

Foot:-
Length 70mm
Material I forgot what I used but it is not mild steel.

I have been asked to move this to the tech area. I will leave a shadow topic behind.
