Fuel pump problems
Recently purchased a 1957 Thunderbird and it had an electric pump on the fender well (too high and too far away from the tank) so I purchased a new (believe the brand was Airtex) mechanical fuel pump from NPD. After hours of trying to prime it, I found that it doesn't have any suction when the engine is turning. Could I have installed it wrong? Do the cam lobes wear out? This is driving me crazy. 1957 312 if it makes a difference.

Re: Fuel pump problems
Check to make the sure the inlet and outlet haven’t been reversed. I have purchased new ones and they were different from the one I removed.

Mine is mounted low just underneath the drivers side, You could have had the fuel pump mounted too high, or reversed.

Re: Fuel pump problems
Are you sure you have the arm under the lobe? Are you sure you have the correct pump from the parts store. The electric pump should push the fuel through the mechanical pump making it unnecessary.

Re: Fuel pump problems
I was trying to get rid of the electric pump. Today I’m going to remove the new mechanical pump and see if I can see the lobe. Also going to compare arms.
