Door Panels

Post by Jim Yergin »

The passenger side door panel that was on my '56 had a number of pads stapled to the backside. They are shown by the arrows in the picture. They are made of the same material and have the same dimensions as what is cemented to the metal of the door underneath the door latch rod. The driver's side panel did not have them and the Trim and Sealer Manual does not show them. However they do look original. Does anyone know if they are supposed to be there?
Thanks.

It seems to me that I remember seeing them as original equipment

Paul, would there be any reason why they are on the passenger side but not on the driver's side?

Really don't know - possibly somewhere along the way the one without was replaced

Just to correct my initial post, the 1956 Trim and Sealer Manual does in fact show these jute strips on the backside of the door panels (page 6-3133).
