Thread for Heater Switch/Wipers & Nuts

Post by Haz567 »

Does anybody know what the thread is for the heater switch/wipers (and nuts) at the dash for a 55, 56 & (maybe) 57. I have a heater switch and its related nut that are both stripped and will not re-install. It is 7/16" but the thread is much finer that a normal 7/16" Fine Thread. I Have already ordered a new switch and nut but would like to know for future work, and to re-use the switch and nut after repair w/ appropriate tap & die if they are available.

I personally would measure the OD of the shaft with a caliper or micrometer to ensure that it checks around that .437 (7/16) dimension. Then I would use a thread pitch gage or the old fashioned way of laying a precision scale (ruler) on the threads and count out threads per inch.
