Heater control

Post by thundermax »

Some how on my 56 the brass back plate which is behind the faceplate(heat control) came loose and prevented me from moving the control arm to turn on or off the heat/defrost. Has anyone taken their control unit out and if so how? Mine was working very well but I guess that I need to remove the entire unit to put the back plate and the faceplate back into position. Thanks in advance for any help!

I am working from memory, but I recall that two bolts behind the dash hold the unit in place. Mark all of your cables coming into the unit where they clamp if the unit was working smoothly; will save a lot of adjustment time later. Remove all cabling & two bolts and unit should come out the front. The good news is access on this side behind the dash is much better than the drivers side.
