I have the same unit in my '56 Thunderbird. It was in the car when I purchased it, but I believe it came from one of the Thunderbird parts suppliers.

I bought this 56 tbird in 1992 fresh import from the States and hot the ac in IT at that time.
Now i am restoring my interior so I liked to find out more info about this

Dutchbird, thank you. I believe the AC unit in your picture is an older aftermarket unit, because I don't see it pictured in any of the recent Thunderbird parts catalogs. Mine still works fine and keeps the car cool. I live in Georgia, so the air is essential for comfortable driving during the summer.
