Rear axle U-Bolt nuts - Are these original?

Post by wesleyw »

As I was cleaning up bolts I noticed how cool the nuts are for the u-bolts that hold the rear axle to the leaf springs are. They have what looks like a rubber part that acts like a lock nut. It's a small indention in the side of the nut that goes all the way through the side of the nut. Are these the original nuts or something someone added 40+ years ago? Any help is appreciated.

They are originals.

An original on my unrestored car.

Thank you sir! Appreciate you verifying it for me. I have never seen such a nut in my life - people in the 50's were pretty creative.
