18" wheels

Post by jtschug »

Has anyone here put 18" wheels on with fender skirts?

I can’t imagine why wheel diameter would be the controlling factor in wheel selection with skirts. Wheel width and backspace, however, was critical in my selection of wheels for my 61. 15 diameter X 7 width with 4 1/4” backspace with 225-70 tires barely clear my skirts. For some cars rear wheels might even have to have more backspace than the front in order to clear fender skirts.
The diameter of my wheels was chosen based on clearance for disc brakes conversion and the look I wanted. Tall wheels and skinny tires is not my thing. To each his own. But whatever diameter wheel you choose, you’ll need to select the correct profile tire to give you nearly the same diameter as the originals, otherwise your speedometer will require correcting.
Good luck.
