Making holes in carpet

Post by wallyblackburn »

Just wanted to share a little trick I used to make holes in the new ACC carpet I got for my '65...

I read the idea on here to use an old soldering iron, but I didn't have one of the old round jobs and I didn't want to gum up what I did have with melted nylon. So, I ended up gripping a 7/16" carriage bolts in a pair of vise grips and heating the end with a torch. It worked great! The holes are nice and round and, like the soldering iron, there was no unraveling of the loop.

Have fun,
Wally

That's a great idea!
I ended up buying a super cheapo iron from fleabay but the bolt would have been a great alternative.
