Passanger side (useless mirror)

Post by JETBRD66 »

Well after numerous mini convex mirrors etc and adjustments till my shoulder socket was almost as crooked as that stupid mirror placement, I went to Auto Zone and pick up a mirror blank with ( the object appears closer) and had my local glass shop cut the mirror to the exact size and with some thin dbl sided tape installed it over the existing mirror, works like a charm, now I can see what is beside me, and in the lane next to me, doesn't do anything for seeing the ground area to back up , but that is due to the width of the door , but it is a cheap investment and looks stock, no one would ever know unless you told them , mirror was $10, and to cut was $8.

Enjoy skip, made my life a whole lot safer, and the folks around me also, my 66 has the blind rear quarter, so it was important to have that extra margin of vision, surprised no one has made one up before, I could not find any info when I did some research, a quick note, make sure that the dbl sided tape you use is really thin & do not try and remove it, it will remove the coating on the mirror and would will have to do it all over again ! was your mirror the same as the drivers side with the bird emblem,or the plastic plated chrome. My car currently has the plastic one that is useless, but a few years ago i bought the metal type that is on the drivers side but i have not put it on yet.I was hoping it would work better, but if not i would absolutely like to do this myself,i also have the blind quarter.

I need to but a whole mirror if anyone has a spare. I think anything from a mid sixties Ford would probably work. Cant see spending $145 for a new one.

Glen, great idea. I've just finished mine. Glass guy I went to wouldn't cut the mirror, since he was afraid the curved glass couldn't be trusted. Being an avid fan of Top Gear, I cut it myself (how hard can it be?) with my Dremel. I covered up ragged cut edges with chrome tape.

Success: looks OK and nobody got hurt.

Cheers!
