Adding USB port in dash/glove box

Post by Alan H. Tast »

And now it's time for me to ask a question. I just finished installing a factory AM/FM radio that has been updated with an Aurora FMR stereo conversion including Bluetooth and a USB connector. Took longer than I expected, but it is functioning. I now want to install a USB port in either the map light panel or in the glove box, but don't have a clue where to start to find a receptacle that will mount flush and not look like it was tacked on. After searching the Forum using the term "USB" I found a few topics, but not totally applicable to what my intentions are. On top of that I'd have to run a cable from the new plug to the existing plug that's been added to the radio. Any suggestions? Bear in mind I'm not an audiophile, computer geek or an electrical engineer. I know others have done this before - looking for hints and tips.

Yep. The conversion included a short lead with female receptacle for USB. I did stumble across a cable with male/female ends and a mounting plate after I posted the message last night with enough length to get from the glove box to the radio's USB plug by routing it through the console. I'm not real crazy about the look of the mounting plate, but it probably could be modified to look better.
