AOD conversion
I've looked thru here and can't find any specific info on converting a 55 from Fordomatic to AOD. I am curious if the AOD will fit in the tunnel without floor mods? Thanks for any info or direction from someone that has done this.
Re: AOD conversion
I cant answer for sure but the AOD is a beefy trans. I put on in a 1964 Fairlane and absolutely despise it. Cant get the TV cable adjusted where I want it for shift points. Ive got a big bellhousing C4 in mine and its tight, I imagine an AOD would be very very close to needing some tunnel mods to fit.
Re: AOD conversion
Not sure about a 55, but a friend of mine put in an AOD in his 56. No mods to the tunnel, but did have to do some grinding on the frame

Re: AOD conversion
Thanks for the replys, I'm goin with a C4,and Flat O Products bellhousing kit. Now need to see if anyone has used a early Mustang shifter in the 55's
Re: AOD conversion
The stock shifter will work with the C4. That is what I used. The only problem is you will not be able to use low manually because not enough length in the TBird shifter. I just bent the rod a little (I think I just straightened it). Using the stock kick down linkage but had to lengthen it. If you haven't got the trans yet, get a 1980 or later, preferably from a floor shift car because of the angle of the shift on the trans (points up)
