Deeper exhaust sound

Post by bobioknight »

Has anyone installed flowmaster exhaust in their 57? I am not looking for loud but would like a deeper engine tone.

Not installed on my T Bird but I have run Flowmasters on lots of 302s in Mustangs and F100s and my 1970 Bronco. Flowmasters tend to drone a little and constant highway RPMs. I have grown to like Borlas and Magnaflows now that I dont really like a loud car. To me they offer a nice tone without the drone.

I had flowmaster in my suburban as well, sounded great. I don't like loud (anymore) either and that's not the sound I am looking for, especially on a tbird, just looking to be a little throatier, traveling down the highway even with the top off the wife and I can talk at regular values and hear each other easily, don't really want to change that. Maybe car shows would be a good place to hear what different mufflers sound like, I will keep these in mind, thanks.

I there was ever a car where a noisy loud muffler would be out of place, the classic T-Bird has to be it.

I like the magnaflow there smaller and not as fat as the flowmaster for a better fit and they have a mellower tone not the hollow can sound of a flowmaster.

Ditto. When I reinstalled my rebuilt 390, I installed FPA headers, 2 1/2" exhaust and 18" long X 4" diameter Magnaflows. I don't care for the Flowmasters I have heard either, hence the Magnaflows. It wasn't long however before I installed small resonators due to the Magnaflows being a little too loud. I like the sound now just fine...not loud at low rpms, easy to have a conversation when cruising at 60 although they are noticeable at that speed but definitely powerful sounding when I put my foot down. The sound reminds me of the fiberglass mufflers of my youth. I can't say how my experience would be applicable since my 390 is a larger engine so this is provided just for information. Good luck.
